5 Selfish Reasons for Being Nice to Others
Reason 1: In my opinion, the most obvious reason. Doing nice things for other people feels good. We do many things in our lives because they make us feel good, this is just another one of them.
Reason 2: If you do something nice for someone else, they may end up doing something nice for you. But make sure to not let them know you’re expecting something in return for being nice, people are less likely to be nice to you if they know you’re expecting them to be.
Reason 3: Doing nice things for others is good for your health. Acts of kindness trigger changes in our brain chemistry, which in turn lower our stress levels, which in turn cause our cortisol levels to drop, and elevated cortisol levels can have an adverse effect on our immune system. Can’t seem to shake that flu, trying doing something nice for somebody.
Reason 4: Being nice to the right people can make you rich and/or famous. You never know who you’re being nice to. They could be a famous movie producer or even a multi-billionaire who may decide to leave your in their will or offer you a role in their new movie.
Reason 5: Being nice to others can improve your quality of life. When you perform acts of kindness, you improve the mood of the people around you. If the people around you are in a better mood, then they are more pleasant to be around. And if the people around you are more pleasant, then your environment is a more positive one. And a positive environment leads to a better quality of life.
So you see, you don’t have to perform selfless acts of kindness. You don’t have to be nice for the sake of being nice. You can be nice for completely selfish reasons, but in the end, people will still thank you for it (or not).
