Focus, Challenges and Cold Showers
A little while back I fell upon the “Feel Goof Lifestyle” website. The author, Phil Drolet, has amassed an amazing collection of stories, challenges, interviews and more, all dealing with the fascinating topic of creating a better life for yourself. I’ve read a bunch of his stuff since then, but one particular challenge really stuck. The 30-day Cold Shower Challenge. A few years ago, following a trip to a spa where I relished in the hot-tub followed by cold-tub concept, I tried to recreate that experience at home by taking a hot shower followed immediately by a cold one. I loved it! But, as with most things, I eventually gave up on it, really not sure why.
Well after reading Phil’s post and challenge, I decided to take the challenge. I am currently on day 17 in a row, and at this point I think I would have a hard time to get going in the morning without it. Now I don’t know if he means to only take cold showers, or if the hot then cold method is acceptable, but regardless, I am loving it. What a rush!!! The first few days were rough, every fiber of my being screaming at me to get the hell out of there. But everyday, I focused on staying calm, of not letting that feeling of panic set in, and now, after a few deep, calming breaths, I am able to stand under the icy cold jet without tensing a muscle (well maybe a twitch or two, but I’m working on that). This seemingly physical challenge has actually turned into a tremendous challenge of mental focus and a great way to boost your energy levels before taking on your day.
I strongly suggest you read Phil’s post and let it inspire you as it did me to take this challenge.
